Dr Randy Carter
I have been privileged to serve as pastor with First Baptist Church of Hillsborough since August 2003. I grew up in Austin and Houston, TX…a state I like to refer to as the “promised land.” I have no real desire to return unless a group gets serious about secession and declaring Texas a sovereign nation again. I might have to go back for that! Until then, we’ll keep driving there to visit our families.
After college in TX, I completed my M.Div. degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary just outside of San Francisco. While in seminary, I served as a campus minister at San Francisco State University with the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. In the summer of 1998, we moved to NC and I attended the Divinity School at Duke University, completing my Th.M. in 2001. I completed my Doctor of Ministry in 2011 at Campbell Universtiy Divinity School, focusing on spiritual direction and preaching.
I am married to Rebecca—a really good deal for me and for Rebecca, well…she shows tremendous grace with me! We have six children (three homegrown and three adopted through foster care) - Wesley, Jeremy, Avery, Olivia, Justin, and Valerie. PLEASE ask Rebecca and me about foster care and adoption!
I look forward each day to the challenges and graces of God’s call with the church.
Rev. Bill Nordan
Bill Nordan has served churches as Minister of Music, Organist, and Pianist in Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, and Texas before coming to Hillsborough. He is a graduate of George Mason University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Melanie Rogers, live in Danville, Virginia.
I grew up in Southern California, and I moved to Durham, NC in August 2011 to attend Duke Divinity School. Lord willing, I will graduate this May 2014. Last December of 2012, I married my beautiful wife Samantha. We love the local church, and are excited about working together in youth ministry. I enjoy being outside, playing sports, reading at coffee shops, good fellowship, and my wife's cooking! Some of my passions are: the relationship between food and faith, discipleship, and biblical studies. My goal as the youth director is to train the youth to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ and teach them what it means to live holistically within the Kingdom of God.
