Children are our most precious gift from God. The early years are important years in the life of every child, as they are growing physically and spiritually, learning academically, and exploring their world socially. Our children's ministry offers programs, activities, and events that are designed to encourage children to build a strong spiritual foundation in their lives. “Kids at FBC have many opportunities to learn about Jesus. We have Sunday School every Sunday morning, choir on Sunday afternoons, and RA's and GA's on Wednesday nights where we learn about missions, pray about missions, and do missions. I enjoy making Blessing Bags and Suncatchers, and visiting the home-bound. I also love doing children's musicals and attending choir and GA camps.” Candalyn Roberts, age 12

Pre-School Program

The Pre-School Department helps lay Christian foundations for birth through kindergarten age children. Our goal is for each classroom to be Christ-focused and child-centered. We believe in providing a safe and clean environment for the children to explore their faith. Even infants learn about Christ's love through the care they receive. Age-appropriate instruction occurs in classes Birth, Ones, Twos, Threes & Fours, and Kindergarten during regularly scheduled church services and special church-wide programs.

Sunday School

At both services (9:30 and 11:00), while you are in worship, or in a Sunday School class of your own, your children will be given first-class attention by adults who love children and consider them their ministry. The children of First Baptist Church Hillsborough learn of the love of Christ in their own language, by teachers who not only teach with words but who demonstrate love by their actions.

Summer Camps

Camp Caraway for Boys
Camp Caraway is the state camp for boys ages 9-17, and is sponsored by the North Carolina Baptist Men. Boys do not have to be involved in Royal Ambassadors or Challengers to attend. Camp Caraway has a strong and well-deserved reputation as one of the finest boy's camps in all of Baptist life. Camp Caraway provides a well-balanced program which ministers to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of boys.

Christian High Adventure
Christian High Adventure (CHA) is a week long Christian experience in back packing on and around the Appalachian Trail. Sponsored by the North Carolina Baptist Men of the Baptist State Convention, CHA seeks to relate the adventure of a wilderness backpacking trip to the adventure of the Christian walk. During the week, participants learn about hiking, trail procedures, selecting and setting up camp, cooking, equipment and clothing, reading a map, rappelling, first aid, safety, and sanitation. Four CHA weeks are male-only, open to those 14 ½ and older. Dads and counselors are invited to attend with boys if desired. Five weeks are available for reservation by coed youth or adult groups. Contact Tom Beam, NC Baptist Men, for more information.

RAs (for boys) and GAs (for girls) are our weekly mission education organizations for children in the 1st through 6th grades. For our younger friends, infants through 5 years of age, we offer Mission Friends.

These programs provide opportunities for children to explore Baptist mission endeavors nationally and internationally. These classes meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm, from September through May.

Vacation Bible School

Each year we have a week long program with games, food, fun, crafts, and learning about the bible and God's will for us. Come on down and you'll find yourself back in Old Testement times, in the middle of a spy thriller, or who knows what!
